Brenda brings over 20 years of teaching experience, with 16 of those dedicated to working in the field of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). In 2016, she was recognised as a Specialist Leader of Education in SEND, reflecting her deep expertise and commitment to inclusive education.
Her experience includes both strategic and operational leadership, notably in the start-up of the first post-16 provision for young people with Moderate Learning Difficulties in her home city—an achievement that continues to have a lasting impact on local education pathways.
Since 2021, Brenda has worked as an Advisory Teacher, supporting schools to create more inclusive environments, with a particular focus on pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Her work is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and a belief in the potential of every young person to thrive.

In 2023, Brenda’s partner experienced a traumatic brain injury following an unprovoked assault, spending nearly three weeks in a coma in intensive care after a severe brain bleed. This life-altering event deeply impacted Brenda and her family, strengthening her understanding of the human brain, the resilience of the human spirit, and the healing power of love, hope, and gratitude.
Through this experience, Brenda has developed a renewed connection to the principles of neuroscience—particularly neuroplasticity—and now brings this lived understanding into her work. She and her team offer compassionate support to parents, carers, siblings, and family members navigating the emotional and practical realities of brain injury and sudden life change.
Brenda is currently writing a book that shares her and her partner’s journey—the challenges, the lessons, and the deep sense of gratitude that emerged from this profound chapter of their lives.
